Palm
Beach is a tropical island built upon barrier reefs
that have had a tremendous impact on the island’s
soil composition. Typical fertilizer mixes from Home
Depot, Lesco & local garden stores are not compatible
with Palm Beach’s soil.
The
alkalinity or PH of any soil is critical in formulating
a fertilizer mix. We have invested many research hours
with a Duke University chemist and an agricultural laboratory
to learn why even expensive fertilizers with high percentages
of minor elements are not absorbed by plants in Palm
Beach. Years of soil and plant analyses have taught us
which major and minor elements will break down in Palm
Beach soils so that they can be absorbed by grasses,
plants, hedges and trees.
The
results of this expensive research are available
exclusively to Scott Lewis’ Gardening & Trimming
clients in the form of custom fertilizer mixes. On-going
adjustments to our special mixes are made possible
by soil and plant analyses done in coordination with
the University of Florida.
Even
the containers that hold plants must be taken into
consideration when fertilizing, especially when they
are on top of terraces or steps. The concrete used in
pots and decks adds to soil alkalinity in direct opposition
to the needs of the potted plants. We have special fertilizer
mixes to account for such soil aberrations.
Our
expertise with custom fertilizers is one of the
reasons why our client properties
look so good that they are frequently
photographed for home and garden
magazines – and
why Scott Lewis’ Gardening & Trimming continues
to win landscaping awards.
